Hartwell Charles Lancaster was born in Old Town on April 16, 1920 and died in Amherst, MA on November 18, 1997. He is buried in North Amherst Cemetery. During World II and the Korean War, he served in the Air Force, ultimately reaching the rank of Colonel.
