Descriptive Object

Identifier:
OBJ.N.2024.8.3
Description
Old Town's horse-drawn 1885 Button Steamer, followed by its 1917 motorized Garford truck. Both are on North Main Street. Button Steamers were the standard fire engines in the USA in the last three decades of the 19th century. The Old Town Steamer was labeled #170. At some point, it was restored and it was still on display in front of the Fire Station in 1976. It is currently housed at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum.  The Garford truck (which was restored more than a few times)  is now on display at the City's Public Safety Building.
